Tidying Up: How to Keep a Clean House

August 15, 2019 By Julia Carlisle

Every week, the average American will spend 6 hours cleaning their home.

We all know the phrase “work smarter not harder”, so are there any ways in which you could keep a clean house without spending hours upon hours doing so?

If you feel like your house is always a mess, we have some tips and tricks for how you can clean it up quickly.

1. Build Daily Habits

When it comes to cleaning, there are many time-saving habits that you can build.

For example, why not incorporate a 15 minute clean up just before bed?

Or, maybe you can teach yourself to clean up as you cook, meaning fewer dishes left behind?

Perhaps you do a 10-minute vacuum around the house just before you leave for work?

It will take some time to build a habit, but by doing a small amount of cleaning each day it can make a difference.

Then, when you need a deep cleaning such as from a cleaning service in Baton Rouge, you’ll be in great shape!

2. Invest in Quality Cleaning Products

Poor quality cleaning products only mean you have to clean for longer and work much harder.

If you own a pet, invest in a vacuum which can handle the fur left all over your house.

If you have kids, choose a detergent which will get out even the worst mud stains.

For chores that you absolutely hate, spend time researching some of the best cleaning products around.

You may be surprised to find hacks such as a robotic vacuum cleaner that can do the work for you.

Or, you may find cheap yet quality hacks such as how useful a scouring pad is in removing water and soap spots from shower doors.

3. Make Sure Everyone Chips in

No-one likes chores. But, everyone needs to chip in whether it’s roommates, a partner or kids.

Sit down with whoever you live with to let them know that they need to help out in keeping the house clean.

Either assign tasks to everyone or simply try the trick of a 15-minute clean once per day.

This can involve putting on some music, setting a timer, and all getting to work.

If you have kids, they can clean their bedrooms and pick up any items.

You and your roommate or partner can race through the dishes or quickly vacuum.

Then, reward yourselves for this quick blast of cleaning!

4. Declutter Your Entire Home

It can be hard to declutter, but if you manage to do it successfully, you may be amazed to find how much easier cleaning becomes.

Nowadays, there are hundreds of books, YouTube videos, and even TV series on the subject of decluttering.

There are many tricks, but ultimately, you should be finding a convenient place for everything you own or throwing it out completely.

Not only will your house be cleaner when you declutter but, if you ever move house, it will be a much simpler process.

Better yet, if you start calculating costs, a decluttered home will be a lot cheaper to maintain and move too.

A Clean House Isn’t Everything

Although having a clean house is more enjoyable than having a dirty home, it can be easy to go overboard.

If you’re spending hours every single day cleaning, this simply isn’t healthy.

Keeping a clean house and a sane mind requires you to look around and decide “this is clean enough.”
