Did you know that the average American household spends $139 on arts and crafts every year?

Arts and crafts are a great way to tune your inner creativity, find a new hobby, and save money on decorations when it comes to holidays.

Are you thinking about making your own DIY holiday decor? Then check out our guide for inspiration on the best DIY decor for beginners.

DIY Holiday Decor Projects for Beginners

Everyone has a favorite holiday season. Whether you enjoy celebrating Valentine’s Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas, there’s one thing that completes the whole experience. Decorations!

Save some money, get the kids involved, and make the holiday even more exciting with the DIY home decor ideas.

DIY Valentine’s Decor

Love is in the air as February pulls around every year. And what better way to express your love than to decorate your house and surprise your loved one.

The main focus of this holiday is love so you’ll need to craft plenty of love hearts.

One option for this holiday, especially if you’re planning on making a delicious romantic meal to celebrate, is to create tableware decor. So why not create a heart table runner?

You can either use pink and red foam or card and cut out your love hearts. Then you can alternate the colors, by gluing pink and red hearts together for the length of the table.

Another option for Valentine’s Day decorations is a decor piece that doubles as a present. Using fabric, string, and a sewing needle, you can easily create your own special bags.

Decorate the bag with hearts and fill it with lovely treats that your partner loves.

These Valentine’s Day bags are great for couples, kids, and dinner party guests.

You might also decide that it’s time to pop the question this Valentine’s Day and if so, nothing says I love you more than a bag filled with her or his favorite things and an engagement ring.

DIY Halloween Decor

Halloween is a spooky time of year but also a great chance to get creative and decorate your home.

There are no shortages when it comes to Halloween decorations, from spooky children-friendly ideas to tasteful decor for dinner party ideas. There are also plenty of easy to make decoration ideas that arts and crafts beginners can do.

A child-friendly idea is a Halloween candy wreath to hang on your door. This decoration doubles up as delicious treats too.

All you need is a foam wreath, a glue gun, and a variety of candies (ideally in autumnal shades). Find candies that are yellow and orange and carefully glue them onto the wreath. Make sure you have enough candy to cover the entire wreath and then finish it off with a yellow bow at the bottom.

While for a tasteful dinner party, you might choose to cut out silhouette Halloween-themed characters.

This easy decoration idea only requires black and red card and unlimited imagination. Add witches hats to your photographs, attach black card bat cut-outs on your fireplace, or add red card flames into your fireplace.

You might also choose to find templates of Halloween characters to cut around. Don’t forget to add the pumpkins too.

DIY Thanksgiving Decor

Thanksgiving is coming up, so you need to craft cute tableware and unforgettable decorations that your guests will love. Pass me the turkey and yams, this year feels like it will be a good one.

One decor idea that takes less than five minutes is to paint a pumpkin. Pumpkins are a great decoration, but when Thanksgiving comes around, you don’t want an orange one, so get a paintbrush and shade your pumpkin in green or tan.

Then allow it to dry and you have an effortless centerpiece for your table.

Take the pumpkin theme one step further by adding mini pumpkins on your table. Use some card to write your guest’s names on and pin these to the pumpkins for where they will be sat at the table.

DIY Christmas Decor

Take your creativity to the Christmas traditions this year, by making your own stockings. All you need is some old fabric, such as a plaid blanket, a sewing machine, and a stocking template (that you can find online).

Once you’ve sewn the fabric together you can hang these handmade stockings up above the fireplace and start filling them with presents.

Depending on where you are in the country, you might not get snow this year. But don’t let that stop you from letting it snow!

Why not try your hand at making some snowflake decorations to stick or hang around your house? All you need is some white paper, a pair of scissors, glue, and some string. Fold the paper and cut out shapes to make your snowflakes look realistic, and then glue the paper together.

These are just some decor ideas. When you’ve tried your hand at a few of these, the possibilities and creativity will be endless.

So don’t forget to scroll the web for more ideas, by searching for DIY holiday decorations Pinterest or on Google images.

Seasonally decorating your home isn’t only satisfying and fun, but if you’re thinking of selling your home it might also help to speed this process up.

Homebuyers enjoy walking into a house and envisioning themselves living there, so those that are dressed and decorated tastefully will attract more potential buyers. Speak to realtors in Nashville to find out more about how you can decorate your home if you want to sell.
