7:07 AM By Julia Carlisle

reduce the clutter

Did you know that around one in four Americans has a clutter problem? Do you simply have too much stuff in your home?

Your closet is probably spilling over and your cupboards are jammed with unwanted items. Remember, a tidy room is a tidy mind!

You don’t need to accept that you’ll always live in a cluttered space. Check out our closet organization tips to declutter your home.

1. Always Group Things Together

group things together

When you have an empty closet, you can simply pack it with random items.

You may have your work shirts, odd stationery, and unwanted gifts together.

This is a huge mistake. You need to keep your items organized according to groups. Don’t even mix clothing together.

Hang up your shirts and leave your pants somewhere else. This way you know exactly where everything without searching desperately.

2. Shelves to Suit You

The shelves in your closet may already be built into the furniture. But, you should be able to remove them or add more shelves.

It’s important to remember that your shelf space shouldn’t determine how you organize your things. It should be the other way around.

Reflect on how you want to organize your stuff before setting up your closet space to make room for everything.

3. Organize According to Frequent Use

frequent use clothes

You don’t want to store your ski equipment in the front of your closet. This is only used once or twice per year.

Keep your most frequently used items at the front so they’re handy for you at any time.

The lesser-used things can be stashed away for a later time.

4. Keep Things Uniform

You want your closet space to be organized. But, it’s also important that it looks great to you.

You can really bolster the appearance of your closet with uniform hangers and boxes.

Don’t mix and match your hangers, keep them the same.

If you want to keep your shoes or bits and bobs inboxes. Buy a dozen of the same shoe boxes to store away your items neatly.

This will also make things easy for Van Man York Removals when you relocate somewhere else.

5. Store Items on Top of the Closet

There is a bunch of space which is easily forgotten on top of the closet. You should think about your closet as a home.

You want shoes on the floor. Your clothes and other items on different floors. Lastly, you have the roof of your home.

This is also where you store items which aren’t so important. Got any bulky bags which you want out of the way? This is where you put them!
