As part of son’s room make over, I wanted to add a globe (or two) to his dresser to go along with his map. He loves looking at the globe in our office, so I set out to find an inexpensive one that he could have of his own.
I found this uber cheap one (in looks and price) that is actually a pencil sharpener. It’s small and cheap but for $1, I thought it perfect for a little tchotchke that he could play with and sharpen his pencils. Gotta love dual purpose items.
To make it look less cheap and to blend better with our vintage globe, I broke out the metallic spray paint in gold.
The globe easily detaches from the stand, so I removed it and gave the stand a few thin coats of spray paint.
- “Joy to the World” Chalkboard Globe
- “Be the Change” Inspirational Globe Makeover
- Handpainted Globe with Gold Lettering
PS> I got the mini can of spray paint, called Krylon Short Cuts, from Michael’s. They are perfect for small craft projects and when you don’t need to buy a large can of paint.
Now it looks much snazzier alongside the other globe.
Moral of the story: If lipstick on a pig doesn’t work, try gold spray paint. The end.
