Air Conditioning Mistakes to Avoid

October 20, 2019 By Julia Carlisle

air conditioning

Air conditioners, although simple, are rather complicated pieces of machinery.

They require multiple components to work efficiently.

So, even the smallest of mistakes can cause the whole system to malfunction.

As such, it’s your responsibility to avoid these mistakes.

Keep reading to learn air conditioning mistakes you need to avoid.

The Air Conditioner is Too Big

Just because something is bigger doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better.

This is especially true when it comes to air conditioners.

A lot of homeowners are under the misconception that because the unit is bigger, it will cool their house faster.

However, this is not the case. An air conditioner that’s too large won’t lower the humidity levels.

The unit won’t function efficiently by constantly going on and off.

Keeping the Air Conditioner From Sight

Although air conditioners aren’t always an eye-catcher, summer bills are bigger eye sores.

Some people tend to hide their air conditioner through the use of shrubbery and other types of plants.

The plants and bushes can severely inhibit function of the unit by blocking the ventilation and clog up the coils, which will reduce the overall efficiency of the machine.

Not Keeping Up With Maintenance

What many new homeowners are unaware of is that air conditioners are rather self-sufficient.

However, they still require routine maintenance to prolong their lifespan and improve the efficiency.

Unfortunately, not everybody performs maintenance on their AC unit and wonders why it’s not working the way they should.

As a result, they end up paying for repairs for something that was easily preventable.

A good example of routine AC maintenance would be replacing the filter, cleaning the evaporator coil and unclog the drain channel.

If this is your first time doing maintenance, you should try Actron to help make the process go smoothly.

Setting the Temperature Too Low

One of the most common mistakes that people make with their air conditioner is setting the temperature too low.

Let’s say the comfortable temperature for a family is about 73 degrees.

To cool your home faster, you would set the temperature a bit lower, like at 68 degrees.

However, this doesn’t do what you expect it would. It causes your unit to run longer and harder, which in turn causes wear and tear on the unit and increases your monthly power bill.
