Besides the fact that potting benches make practical sense for gardening, they should look good. If you don’t have a potting bench or are not happy with the one you have, take some inspiration from Marian at Miss Mustard Seed. She has constructed an all-weather potting bench using chicken feed boxes and some pressure treated lumber.
The challenge here was to see how well her line of milk base paint would work on the lumber. By all accounts, it looks like it passed the test, and covered the yellow hue that is typically found in pressure treated lumber. She sanded down the rest of the frame and secured the nesting boxes in place.
This potting bench serves as a great way to stay off the ground and save our knees during the planting season. If you have a collection of vintage items add them to your potting bench. Make it yours and you will enjoy using it throughout the summer.
