Upcycling Old Cabinets Into A New Sideboard

Often, if you drive by a home that is being renovated, you’ll often see old cabinets in the driveway or by a dumpster awaiting garbage pickup. If you are fortunate enough to see these, get them home any way you can and get to work creating a unique sideboard like Katie from mountainmodernlife did.

Katie used two kitchen cabinets that were slated to be demolished and created a beautiful rustic sideboard from them. With detailed instructions, Katie takes us step-by-step through the process of painting and refinishing the cabinets, and then she describes in great detail how she selected the wood for the doors, finished the wood and then refinished the wood to achieve exactly the color she wanted. She also gives great tips on adding hardware so the end product looks professionally done.

Although she uses her cabinets side by side as a sideboard, they can be used in a kitchen as a breakfast bar,  or the two can be used back to back as a storage unit.
