This mudroom bench did not start out looking anything like it does now. Believe it or not, it originally was a dresser. Karen, from The Weekend Country Girl, deconstructed the piece and turned the ordinary dresser into a functional bench for her mudroom.
Sharing details on construction and pictures, Karen explains how her husband crafted a backboard using beadboard back and a mirror. He framed everything in, including the mirror, giving the piece a showroom quality appearance.
Part of this impressive design is the use of drawers from the dresser that now functions at the top of the bench for added storage. They have hinged fronts, to allow quick access to hats and gloves. Karen added plywood across the bottom to create a seating area and hooks to hang a coat or two. Deconstructing this dresser into a mudroom bench was absolutely genius. It is a fine example of thinking outside the box and repurposing.
