April of House by Hoff shares how she turned two black mirrors that were long forgotten in her basement into “pretty white nautical delights.” April refabbed her mirrors by simply spray painting them white and then adding rope around the circumference. This morning I shared a DIY giant Jenga game that would be a blast for outdoor entertaining and family cookouts. How much would Dad enjoy having a handmade cooler stand filled with his favorite beverages on hand during the game? Jenny from Birds and Soap followed plans from Ana White to build one for her hubs last Father’s Day. It boasts a bottle opener, drain, casters, and even bottle caps Jenny’s sweet hubby saved for her crafting. As Jenny says, it is the “coolest” gift you can give Dad!
If you’ve been around any of my sites, you know I come from a game-loving family. So when I came across the idea for a giant Jenga game, I was instantly sold. Emma from A Beautiful Mess felt the same way after playing for the first time at a friend’s house and immediately came home to build her own set. As she says, it is a pretty easy and inexpensive project – just cut some boards, sand them smooth, and then paint them if you want to. This would be a gift that keeps giving for Dad as your family enjoys giant Jenga competitions outside all summer long!
Gail from Purple Hues and Me came across a really cute outdoor pillow loaded with colorful flowers. At $49, it may have been out of Gail’s budget but that didn’t mean she couldn’t recreate it and get a similar look for less. Gail says, “I wanted to make a no-sew whimsical flower pillow anyone could do just by using fabric, ribbon, and glue. The end result is truly stunning, and the flowers are quite easy to make after some practice.”
It’s no secret that many mommas like jewelry so here’s another stylish gift idea for Mom shared by MacKenzie at Encourage Fashion. MacKenzie created a pretty dip-dyed knot necklace that’s great for summer and simple enough that even those with no jewelry-making skills can pull it off. I love the ombre effect MacKenzie achieved with her dye. So pretty!
Your sun-loving mom will look fab walking across the beach with this stylish chevron tote from Jaime at That’s My Letter. Jaime’s tote features a fun navy chevron print with fuchsia monogram, drop cloth canvas lining, and rope handle. In all honesty, I would choose Jamie’s bag hands-down over her inspiration from Pottery Barn Teen!
After spending all last summer sans a backyard as a pool and fence were put in, Melissa of The Happier Homemaker and her husband can’t wait to actually utilize the dream space this year. One thing they wanted was a nice outdoor dining set, but they all came with steep price tags. Instead, Melissa and her hubs worked together to build their own using a combination of plans that included Ana White’s farmhouse table. Would you believe it only cost them $100 and one afternoon?!?
