Faux Mercury Glass Pumpkin Jars

While “window shopping” for fall and Halloween decorating inspiration, Amy from Home Sweet Thrifty Home found some pretty mercury glass pumpkins on Pottery Barn’s website. This thrifty gal couldn’t justify spending $30 on just one pumpkin, especially when she could make two for about $20. All it took was some Krylon Looking Glass spray paint and a mixture of vinegar and water for Amy to transform the glass Wal-mart pumpkins. Best of all, Amy likes her even better since they double as décor and storage jars.

Heart pumping you snatch it from the shelf and hold your treasure close. Sound familiar? That must have been how Debbie from One Day at a Time felt when she finally found a vase that was the perfect size and shape to turn into a Crate & Barrel look-a-like. Debbie used spackle to create texture and then glammed it up with some silver spray paint.

Metallic Leaf Christmas Tree

While browsing the Pottery Barn catalog recently, Joy from Thrifty Parsonage Living came across their beautiful metallic bay leaf trees. Joy was drawn to the silver tree since she’s decorating with silver, blue, and a winter wonderland theme this year.  She was disappointed to find the trees were no longer available, but, in true DIY spirit, decided to make it herself. The shimmery tree cost Joy a whopping $2.50, which has to make her happy they were sold out in the first place!
