Recycled Newspaper Decorative Bowl

Gail from Purple Hues and Me was more than a little surprised to see newspaper bowls for sale online for ridiculous prices, especially considering the materials cost next to nothing! The crafter in Gail told her she could make the bowls herself – and that’s just what she did. This is a great way to […Read More]

Bead Napkin Rings… From What???

Megan from Our Pinteresting Family created these lovely napkin rings for her Thanksgiving table using a most unlikely source – toilet paper rolls! I am sure TP is the last thing that comes to mind when it comes to holiday dining, but the little cardboard rolls are perfect for holding a napkin. And don’t they dress up quite nicely with brown paint and gemstone stickers?!? Your guests will never guess the rings’ humble origin {Wink}!

Cloche Jewelry Holder

If your mom loves jewelry but already has enough to out-bling Vegas,  why not make her a jewelry holder for Mother’s Day? There are tons of tutorials out there for DIY jewelry storage, but what I love about this cloche from Christine at Tin’s Bloggin is that it is made from recyclables. How perfect is it for storing bracelets, watches, or rings?!?

Beaded Easter Candle Holders

Becky from Posh Pink Giraffe shares my love for repurposing trash and recyclable items. She finally found a use for all the caps she’d been saving from her Pillsbury roll containers in these beaded votive holders. The caps make a great platform for the candles to rest on and provide the base for the pipe cleaner and bead framework. Becky’s candle holders have all the sparkle and luster of her Pottery Barn inspiration without the cost!

Chalkboard Office Storage Jars

Erica from Craftivity Designs has been working on her home office and found a cute and thrifty way to store small supplies by repurposing baby food jars. Erica made the jars pretty with paint and then added chalkboard labels for organization. And isn’t everything just better with a chalkboard finish {wink}? This is such a simple project that would be useful throughout the house – spices in the kitchen, bath salts in bathroom, game pieces in the playroom…

Decorative Spring Baskets

Sherry from Pondered Primed Perfected put a fresh spin on a project she completed last summer upcycling strawberry cartons. This go-round Sherry dressed up the cartons with pastel paint, glitter, and ribbons for a look that’s befitting of spring and Easter. Sherry’s steps result in a durable, waterproof finish so the containers can be used again and again as tabletop décor, mini Easter baskets, and even gift baskets for friends.

Paper Christmas Tree

“Oh Christmas tree. Oh Christmas tree. How lovely are your branches pages.” Pages? That’s right! This Christmas tree from Dana at Wonder Forest is made from repurposed music book pages. Dana cut paper squares a plenty and then stacked them up to make this pretty paper tree. If you can operate scissors or a paper cutter, then you’re fully equipped to make your own!

Burlap Matting

You might be surprised that the box from this morning’s bowl of cereal could become wall décor that rivals that of Pottery Barn. Just check out this burlap mat that Melissa from Redfly Creations created from cardboard. A spray painted secondhand frame makes this project all the more thrifty!

Recycled Magazine Storage Box

Using items from your recycling bin, you can turn a plain old cardboard box into a decorative storage bin like Gay from It’s A Hodgepodge Life did. Gay rolled a bunch of magazine pages and attached them to her box and then created a no-sew burlap liner to make the inside as beautiful as the outside. This is just one of many fun creations you can make from rolled magazine pages!
