Upcycled Light Up Star Wall Décor

pottery-barn-inspired-light-up-star.png

Ya’ll know I am a sucker for an upcycle project, so it’s no wonder I totally love this DIY from Morena of Morena’s Corner. Morena had been trying to figure out how to recreate a  light up star from Pottery Barn Kids, and the answer came in an unlikely form – a Valentine’s candy box. Once Morena got that star-shaped box from her mom, she knew she finally had the supplies she needed to make her own wall décor. What better excuse to wolf down a box of chocolates {Wink}?

Krista of The Happy Housie created some simple wall shelves for her boys’ bedroom to store their beloved and ever-growing collection of books. In addition to providing storage, these ledges put the books on display and turn them into artwork. Krista says, “With a few cuts of wood, some screws, and some paint, you can create DIY book display shelves for $5 each rather than the $59 per shelf you would pay at PB Kids.”

Kids Rotating Gallery Wall with Chalkboard “Frames”

pottery-barn-knockoff-chalkboard-frames.jpg

Melissa of Two It Yourself created her own rendition of Pottery Barn Kids’ chalkboard frames by utilizing the matting from old frames she had. Melissa turned the mats into a rotating gallery wall for her kids’ creations with chalkboard paint, mini clothespins, and baker’s twine. The matting forms a little frame around the artwork and, thanks to the chalkboard paint, can be labeled with a cute caption!

Bungee Bulletin Board for Less Than $10

The Krazy Coupon Lady shares a “fun twist on a traditional bulletin board that utilizes bungee cords to keep all your treasures in place.” Like she says, this is one versatile little board that’s perfect for holding recipes and reminders in the kitchen or artwork and pictures in a kid’s room or playroom. I love that this bulletin board doesn’t require thumbtacks, so it’s safe and easy for little ones to switch out the items on display.

Pottery-Barn-Kids-cameron-storage-knock-off.jpg

Brit from House Updated just finished converting a corner of her basement into a playroom. Storage was a must, so Brit combined a couple of different storage systems, including an Expedit-like unit she had on hand and a couple of kitchen cupboards from Ikea, to make her own Pottery Barn-esque storage system. She says, “This way I got all the extra storage and could customize it too! I fancied it up with painted fabric bins and colorful chalkboard labels and now the kids know exactly where to put their stuff. I love organization that looks good too!”

Jumbo Watercolor Paint Palette Wall Décor

watercolor-palette-wall-decor.jpg

I love harboring my kids’ creativity and think an important part of that is creating a special space for them to display their work. Courtney of Crafts by Courtney made an adorable wall for showcasing her kiddo’s creativity with this jumbo paint palette and clipboard gallery wall. Courtney was able to make the paint palette for around $20 using a board and bottles of craft paint. It is perfect for adding color to a space and making a statement on a long wall.
