Kids Train Table

Like couches in living rooms, activity tables are staple furnishings for playrooms. However, they can be quite pricey, especially considering the fact that kids aren’t exactly gentle on furniture. Janette from Style with Cents shares how to make a table that is TWICE as big and HALF the cost of one of Pottery Barn Kid’s most popular activity tables using MDF and fence posts. I can’t say it any better than Janette – “That’s what you call WINNING, my friends.”

Wood Twin Bed

With a baby who is no longer baby, Whitney from Shanty 2 Chic knew it was time to convert her daughter’s room from a nursery to a big girl room. First up, was a big girl bed that Whitney literally whipped up in one day following plans from Ana White. Whitney’s favorite part about this bed is that it’s built to house a trundle underneath. All I can say is that I am blown away by her mad skills and can’t wait to see how the room comes together!

Personalized Step Stool

With two young children, I can attest to the fact that a stool is a necessity in the bathroom and can also be helpful if you’ve a little chef in the kitchen. While plastic stools get the job done, they just aren’t nearly as pleasing to the eye as a personalized wood stool like this one from Jaime at That’s My Letter. Jaime followed plans from Ana White to build her stool for next to nothing using scraps she had on hand. The hand painted personalization is just the icing on the cake!

“Brother” Wall Sign

pb-kids-inspired-brother-plaque.jpg

One of the perks of DIY is the ability to customize an item exactly how you want it. You want dark brown instead of black? You got it! That’s exactly what spurred on the creation of this wall sign by Aimee from The Vintage Estate. Aimee used paint and a contact paper stencil to easily replicate the plaque her client wanted in the exact color she wanted. I gotta say that I love this sweet little sign!

Kids Tool Bench

After creating an amazing pegboard craft supply organizer, Heidi from Honeybear Lane had some of the pegboard left over. The little piece of board spurred on another very cool project in which Heidi repurposed an old table into a workbench for her boys. I love the rustic and more realistic look of Heidi’s bench compared to its plastic store-bought counterparts. And of course the fact that Heidi made it out of things she already had makes me love it all the more!

Whale Wall Décor

Mable from Lilato Laka finally decided to give her son’s room some TLC after nine months of avoiding the task. A simple and timeless nautical theme rekindled her excitement to work on the space, and Mable spotted a piece of whale wall décor that she loved. She couldn’t find where to buy whale, but that was hardly a problem when Mable could make it herself. She broke out her beloved jig saw to bring the 34”x20” whale to life for a mere $12!

Stenciled Burlap Lampshade

Traci from Beneath My Heart was flipping through her Pottery Barn Kids catalog when a burlap lampshade caught her eye. And… surprise! It wasn’t because it was exactly what she’d been looking for and knew she could make it for less. On the contrary, Traci had already created almost identical lampshades for her boys’ room three years prior! Pretty striking resemblance, eh? Traci can proudly say, “Pottery Barn copied me!” {Giggled}

Wood Display Shelf

Jaime from That’s My Letter didn’t disappoint when a friend requested a set of display shelves similar to those sold by Pottery Barn Kids. Jaime teamed up with Ana White to build shelves that can easily be customized to fit any wall space. Why spend $49 or even $79 (ouch!) for one simple shelf when you could build your own for only $11?!?
