Painted Black and White Herringbone Rug

There is not much that makes a statement in a room like a large graphic print rug. While designing her son’s big boy room, Aggie from Wool and Flax knew she wanted to incorporate a black and white herringbone rug into the space. She also knew she didn’t want to spend a lot of money. Aggie happened to have an old rug in the closet and thought, “Why not make my own herringbone rug!” Out came the paint and tape, and Addie ended up spending only $5 for the fabric medium!

Paint an Aztec Rug with Drop Cloth

Like me, you have probably seen your fair share of painted rugs. However, I was still blown away when I stumbled upon this “Aztec wonder” that Janel from Nellie Bellie created with a drop cloth and paint. Yep, that’s paint, Folks! Janel cut shapes from sponges and then stamped away, building “basic design on top of basic design.” All I can is “Wowzers!” This takes rug painting to a whole new level!

Painting on a Textured Rug

Mandi from Vintage Revivals was loving the look of a handwoven rug with an ethnic vibe from West Elm, but $800 was definitely out of her price range. Since the imperfection of the design was what Mandi loved about the rug, it was the perfect project to DIY. She purchased a rug with a similar nubby texture and then went to work with tape and a paint brush. Best of all, Mandi shares her secret for painting on a textural rug and still get getting fab results!

Blue Painted Chevron Rug

Riva from Uno, Dos, Très Chic is not a fan of traditional baby motifs, so this chevron painted rug was the perfect addition to her son’s nursery. Riva created her chevron design but cutting over 200 rectangles from freezer paper. (How’s that for dedication?) I really like how Riva alternated the two slightly different shades of blue, as it adds a bit more visual interest. Most importantly, it looks like Riva’s little man likes his new stylin’ rug.
