Best of PB #8: French Script Lampshade with a Sharpie

French script lampshade

Jeannine of The Concrete Cottage had a plain Target lamp shade lying around and decided to add a little pizzazz to it with some French script images and a fin tip Sharpie. The end product however, turned out to be a pretty close knock off to a Pottery Barn shade… who knew! Jeannine’s lampshade looks so amazing that it’s hard to believe it’s actually a very simply process!

Stenciled Burlap Lampshade

Traci from Beneath My Heart was flipping through her Pottery Barn Kids catalog when a burlap lampshade caught her eye. And… surprise! It wasn’t because it was exactly what she’d been looking for and knew she could make it for less. On the contrary, Traci had already created almost identical lampshades for her boys’ room three years prior! Pretty striking resemblance, eh? Traci can proudly say, “Pottery Barn copied me!” {Giggled}

Burlap Rosette Lampshade

pb-kids-inspired-rosette-lampshade.jpg

Crystal from Homemaker in Heels made a plain lampshade resemble a beautiful bouquet by covering it in burlap rosettes. The rosettes are crazy simple to make, requiring just a little rolling, twisting, and gluing, but make a huge visual statement.  This is a great way to salvage an old shade that is showing some wear and tear or discoloration. All covered in rosettes no one would ever be the wiser!

As Amanda from What Hopes and Dreams are Made of points out, glass lamps are a great fit for pretty much any color scheme or decorating style. It leaves little question to why they have soared in popularity! Amanda got in on the craze by making her own bottle lamp from an apple juice jug she already had. Amanda’s lamp came in at only $24.50, and that includes the shade!

Mary from At Home on the Bay was inspired to create her own cane lampshades by wrapping pre-woven caning around drum shades and finishing the edges with bias tape. Mary left one of her shades the natural cane color but darkened another with stain for a pendant light. This just shows the possibilities when working […Read More]

Vintage Lace Lampshade

Kathleen from Charm Bracelet Diva was shopping at Pier 1 with her daughter, whom she affectionately calls Chickadee #1, when she spotted a gorgeous lace lampshade that had her smitten. Of course…like many of us frugalistas the price tag was enough to send her home running for craft supplies to recreate it herself. I love […Read More]

Flower Embellished Lampshade

Erin from How to Nest for Less was inspired to turn her daughter’s plain Jane pink lampshade into a flowery work of art. She simply purchased some floral embellishments from the craft store and hot glued them onto the shade. I love how Erin clustered the pink and white flowers and leaves onto her shade. […Read More]

French Stripe Lampshade

Kathleen at Musings from a French Cottage has her pooch to thank for this project! It was he who destroyed both of her bedside lamps in a month, propelling her to buy new lamps and then refab her original drum shades with a drop cloth slip cover and some paint to achieve the look of […Read More]
