Anthropologie’s colorful flower vases have caught the eyes of many DIYers. I have seen vases embellished with jewelry to achieve the same look, but this is first time I’ve seen a paper flower that’s just as pretty as the inspiration! Melissa of The Happier Homemaker shows how simple it is to make the chrysanthemum with just some snipping and rolling. Attached to her painted dollar store vase, it’s the perfect focal point for spring!

Bronze Owl Figurines

Jessica from Mad In Crafts saw some cute owls that would be a nice addition to her fall décor; however, they weren’t $39.50 cute. Especially not when Jessica could turn some dollar store figurines into her own rustic owl décor. I always love this option since knick knacks are everywhere… dollar stores, thrift stores, flea markets… everywhere. Grab your spray paint of choice, and in just a few minutes you’ve got a whole new look!

With some old dictionary pages and Mod Podge, she gave them the more subdued autumn look she was after.

Bookends are a great way to add a little personality to a shelf and, of course, keep your books from falling over like dominoes! Charlene from My Frugal Adventures shares how you can save some cash by making your own bookends from figurines. The key is to find figurines, like Charlene’s little ceramic owls from the dollar store, that are hollow and have a hole in the back. With some rocks and spray paint, they become sturdy and adorable bookends!

Loving the look (but not the price, of course!) of iron candle lanterns, Krista from While He Was Napping made her own using picture frames from the dollar store. A little spray paint here… some glue there… and voila! Krista even added some vinyl to copy the decorative glass panels from her inspiration more closely. [...Read More]

Heather from Shades of Tangerine was inspired by all of the beautiful lanterns she has seen in stores this summer to make her own outdoor hanging lantern. The project was made simple (and inexpensive!) by using picture frames from the dollar store. Of course these lanterns would be lovely for an outdoor wedding reception as [...Read More]
