Versatile Dollhouse/Toy Shelf for a Little Girl

dollhouse-bookcase-knock-off.jpg

As soon as Amanda from Mommy is Coocoo had a daughter she knew she wanted her to have a dollhouse. She loved the versatility of a bookshelf/dollhouse since her daughter may not want to play with dolls forever but would, of course, always have toys and books in need of storage. Amanda was able to create her own from a secondhand wooden dollhouse in need of a little love. With a fresh coat of paint, it’s the perfect little home for her daughter’s dolls or books and other toys!

Krista of The Happy Housie created some simple wall shelves for her boys’ bedroom to store their beloved and ever-growing collection of books. In addition to providing storage, these ledges put the books on display and turn them into artwork. Krista says, “With a few cuts of wood, some screws, and some paint, you can create DIY book display shelves for $5 each rather than the $59 per shelf you would pay at PB Kids.”

Vintage License Plate Map Pallet Art

diy-license-plate-map.jpg

Angela from blue i style has long been obsessed with the Reclaimed License Plate Map from Uncommon Goods. When she decided to go with a vintage, handmade look for her son’s room, the map was a shoo-in. However, at almost $4,000, Angela knew it would never be in her budget and pulled together a plan to get the same look with a much- less-expensive license plate map she found printed on heavy gauge steel and an old pallet. She says, “The final product, while not made from real license plates, has a very similar feel at a much better price. The final price tag for my knock off version was only $140!”

DIY-Potting-Bench-Pottery-Barn-Abbott-Inspired1.jpg

Now that it’s spring I know many of you with a green thumb are chomping at the bit to get outside to the garden. Susan from Between Naps on the Porch has always wanted a potting table, and when she realized it could also double as a serving table for outdoor parties she was sold all over again. Susan got to work planning her build, and here’s the cool part – this is her very first woodworking project! She says she didn’t even know how to use a drill! If you are as impressed and inspired as I am, the good news is that Ana White drew up the plans so you can also build your own potting bench for spring!

Even if you consider yourself a non-artist, don’t write this project off. Tamara says she is not a painter but still decided to test her luck and learned a lot along the way. Now she has a pretty painting to show for it!

Painted Wood Patterned Coasters

diy-coasters-from-plywood.jpg

Abby at Just a Girl and Her Blog recently came upon some colorful coasters at Anthropologie that she absolutely loved and immediately thought, “I can make those!” With some plywood, washi tape, and a little bit of paint, Abby easily created her own coasters that are really similar to the original– and they were free since she had the supplies on hand. I love when even a coaster can add some serious style to your space!

bungee-bulletin-board.jpg

The Krazy Coupon Lady shares a “fun twist on a traditional bulletin board that utilizes bungee cords to keep all your treasures in place.” Like she says, this is one versatile little board that’s perfect for holding recipes and reminders in the kitchen or artwork and pictures in a kid’s room or playroom. I love that this bulletin board doesn’t require thumbtacks, so it’s safe and easy for little ones to switch out the items on display.
