Best of Knock Off Decor #4 : Stenciled Rug for a Reading Nook

This knock off is honestly one of my favorite ever featured on Knock Off Decor, and it just so happens to be the fourth most popular in pageviews. Lydia from Pudel-Design added a graphic punch to her reading nook with this handpainted, stenciled rug. Now, I have seen my fair share of painted rugs, but am still blown away each time I see Lydia’s. Lydia made her own stencil, then traced it onto the entire rug, and hand painted it. I can only imagine the tedium involved in this process, but Lydia’s results are simply astounding!

DIY Stenciled Rug | This is one of the best painted rugs I have ever seen. It looks just as beautiful as its West Elm inspiration!

Lydia was inspired by the Tasksim Rug from West Elm.

  1. Omg….what a great rug. I am on a hunt now to find a great stencil! Thanks for posting this. I just stopped over to see Lydia!!! She has great stuff!

    • Did you see how Lydia created her own stencil from a design she found on the internet similar to her West Elm inspiration? Of course you can buy a ready-made stencil too, but I loved Lydia’s idea to get the exact design you want and save some money!

  2. Stacye Hixson says:

I love the rug, but that chandelier is to die for.

    • Lydia made that too! If you click on the link above, you will find a link in Lydia’s rug tutorial that takes you to the tutorial for the chandelier. There are some great projects over at Lydia’s site! Enjoy! :)

  3. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much Beckie!!!!
I am so happy about this feature!;)
Such things really made my day! LOve if I can inspire other people by my DIY projects!
    Thank you!
    Love and hugs from Germany…

    • I love your rug, Lydia, and am thrilled to be able to feature it! I know many will be inspired by it. Nice work! :)

  4. I am so in love with the idea of making my own rug, but Ikea no longer carries the rug that everyone has been using for this project. Does anyone know of a good alternative – inexpensive and the right quality? Thanks!

  5. What a gorgeously put together room! For all the DIY-ers this is an awesome tutorial, but I can’t resist telling you about our beautiful, 100% cotton & canvas rugs that are Made In Canada. At $69-$99 a pop, they’re cheap! Come & take a look :)
This is of course for those of us who are having a lazy summer 😀
