When you look through the catalog from a high-end home goods store, do you want to re-furnish your whole house with the beautiful rustic yet chic look you see?
If you love the look of the pieces featured in those catalogs but cringe at the price tags, then you’ll want to see the tutorial by Ashley from Vintage Refined to find out how to create the same look with very little expense.
Using a combination of paint, wax, and stain, Ashley managed to duplicate the beauty of the finishes in the catalogs.
She explains in detail just how she did it. She began the process by applying a light coat of chalk paint with a brush she dipped into water to thin the paint.
Next, she added a coat of stain using a rag, and this blended the colors of the paint and stain together.
For the hardware, Ashley decided to remove the more ornate original pulls. She replaced with a simpler look. Clearly, this is a preference decision. The oil rubbed bronze color she chose though goes perfectly with her final finish.
She kept the castors that the dresser has always had. Since she has a hardwood floor, they still look great (and make it easier to move when cleaning.
Finally, she wiped on a coat of dark wax to protect the piece and enhance the color.
