The recent decline in the honey bee population has led to some good ideas on how to revitalize and encourage the bee population. In her post, Heather from the New House New Home New Life shares with us the importance of helping the bees and how we can do that.
“A mason bee is a “solitary” bee that lays its eggs rather than relying on a queen to lay all the eggs in the hive. They don’t produce honey but do gather pollen and help to pollinate the flowers in your garden. Each mason bee fills hollow areas with its eggs and secures them by producing a “mud” which encapsulates the egg.” How do we help the Mason Bee? We make a mason bee home. Heather shares how to take a cubby box and add things like sticks and paper to it to make it welcoming to the Mason bee.
She notes that it should be brought inside for the winter and that the paper should be replaced when it wears out. This an excellent idea to help the bees. Thank you for sharing Heather !!
