Having an album of family memories is nice and all but have you ever considered putting them out on display?
A huge photo wall is the best way to bring life to an otherwise empty room. How do you create this look you ask?
The great thing is that there is no wrong way. There are so many creative ways to display your pictures.
All you need to get started is your family photos and a method in which to hang them such as picture frames.
You don’t even have to get a bunch of the same frame. Ready to get started?
Keep reading to find out more about setting up your picture wall.
1. Vintage Photo Frame
The best part about this vintage photo frame is that you’ll be creating it.
That means you’ll get to control how many photos it can accommodate.
All you need to get started is four pieces of wood, a sander, paint, nails, and staples.
Sand the wood down and then paint or stain it however you want. O
nce it’s dry you can use nails and the staples to fasten the frame together. After that’s done attach a few pieces of twine to the frame.
It should look like a bunch of mini clotheslines when you’re done.
From there, hook your photos to the twine using clothespins.
2. Colorful Borders
Using colorful borders is the perfect way to add a pop of color to a plain white wall.
Glue the pictures to colorful construction paper. You can use cardstock instead if you want a little extra stability.
Once you’ve got your pictures glued down you can choose to either place your bright creations in black frames or display them without.
3. Choose Frames that Vary in Size and Style
If you’ve got a bunch of pictures that all vary in sizes it can be hard to find the exact same frame for each of them.
The good thing is that you don’t have to.
You can create an interesting photo wall by grabbing a bunch of frames that while are the same color, vary in style.
At the end of the day, the differences in the frames don’t matter and they draw the eye to your efforts.
If you see a frame style that you like but isn’t the right color, a can of spray paint will fix the problem.
On the flip side of this, you can create an interesting look by using all the same frames as well if you need the cohesion.
Alternate between hanging your horizontal and vertical pictures to bring attention to the wall.
4. Pick a Theme and Go with it
One of the easiest and most popular ways of creating a photo wall is to center your pictures around a common theme.
Hang two series of photos vertically on the wall and put a word between them to bring the whole look together.
You can make the theme family, friends, peace, live, laugh, love, whatever you want.
5. Foam Board
Using a foam board is an interesting way to hang up a bunch of pictures at once.
You can get these boards for no more than 20 dollars depending on where you go so it’s a cheap solution as well.
Get out the pictures that you want to display and arrange them on the board before you attach them to it.
This will allow you to get them in the order you want before you get started.
6. Make the Pictures Work with What’s Under Them
After you decide where you want to put your photo wall, take a look at what’s under the area like furniture, artwork, and tables.
This will allow you to build your photo design around the shape of what’s under it.
Give this idea a try if you want to have a little cohesion. It’s oddly satisfying to the eyes, to be honest.
7. Family Photos Aren’t Only for the Living Room
Most people hang up their family pictures in the living room.
This is all well and good but what do you have displayed around the rest of your home?
You can bring a lot more attention to your pictures if you put them in places where nobody would expect them to be such as at the end of a hall, behind the head of the bed in the guest bedroom, or on the staircase.
8. Using Panoramics
If you know how to print panoramic photos then you can create quite an interesting look with them.
Gather up all your best panoramic pictures from a summer beach trip or your child’s baseball game, place them in long slender frames, and display them on the wall where they belong.
Bonus points if the frames all vary in size and thickness. That will bring some extra attention to them.
9. Create a Timeline
As the years go by your family grows and does new things. You can show this growth with a timeline photo wall.
Place your photos in white photo frames and date each one.
After that, it’s only a matter of hanging them up in chronological order or reverse order if you want to throw people off.
