Elegant Simplicity Hutch Top

We often tend to look at hutches as one piece of furniture. In fact, if you were to break them apart they can essentially become two. That is what Reeves from The Weathered Door did when she transformed the beautiful top from the hutch into a functional cabinet.

What makes this project particularly interesting is Reeves explanation of what “bleed through” is and how to combat it when dealing with painting furniture. In order to prevent the tannins from bleeding through, she recommends using a stain blocker. Her addition of legs and cleaning the brass handles enhance the overall charm of the glass case. By not painting the inside it showed a very nice contrast to the gray paint she used on the outside of the cabinet. This hutch top became an instant elegant addition to her room and provides a wonderful place to show off items she wants to display.
