Mark and Jen from Simply Southern Furniture just dropped another incredible Pottery Barn dupe, and this one is an absolute showstopper!
They took a simple Facebook Marketplace find and transformed it into a high-end designer piece for a fraction of the cost.
First things first, they removed all the old hardware and gave the dresser a solid sanding using both an orbital sander and a detail sander for those tricky corners.
Once the surface was prepped, they patched up the original hardware holes to make way for sleek, new pulls.
The real magic started with the paint!
Dixie Belle’s Latte was the perfect warm tan shade to match the classic Pottery Barn aesthetic.
Instead of brushing it on, Mark and Jen used an HVLP gravity-feed spray gun from Harbor Freight, which made the application smooth and effortless. Nice!
To achieve that signature high-end finish, they applied Van Dyke Brown glaze with a tile sponge, wiping it back to create a subtle, vintage-inspired depth.
The final touch?
Upcycled hardware, refinished with gold and bronze gilding wax to nail the designer look.

Project Feedback Highlights
Painting Process and Drawer Edges
Many DIY’ers were curious about the painting process, particularly why the edges of the drawers weren’t fully painted and whether painting them together would cause sticking.
Mark and Jen clarified that a thin layer of paint prevents sticking.
Sealing and Finishing Techniques
Sealing and finishing were hot topics, with people asking about the glaze, topcoat, and whether a clear satin coat or wax was necessary for durability.
Surface Preparation and Sanding
Some people questioned whether sanding was needed before applying the paint, as certain paints claim to adhere without prep.
