A media center is a most useful piece of furniture in any home. If it can be as beautiful as it is functional, that’s a huge plus all around. Jenni from hometalk shows us how she created a beautiful and rustic media console from a mid-century cabinet that was too uninspired for her taste.
The first thing Jenni did was remove the tapered legs that the cabinet rested on and replaced them with sturdy legs cut from 2 x 4s, which raised it higher. Rather than replacing the cabinet doors, Jenni cut sections of scrap wood, which she applied to them and created the rustic look of barn doors. She then used a wood stain over the entire piece and finished with several coats of a clear topcoat to protect the wood.
The final touch that brought the piece to a whole new level was to add new hardware to complete the rustic farmhouse look.
