DIY Child’s Numeral One Shelf

Do you have a child with a sports-themed bedroom or a child who loves to display favorite personal items? If the answer to this is, “yes”, then Katie at addicted2diy has a simple project that any child will love. The #1 shelf Katie created is designed to show off mementos and special objects.

Katie provides a complete supply list as well as instructions with photos and downloadable plans. She started with a 10′ long 1″ x 8″ board and made all of her cuts from this one board. Once the pieces were cut and lined up, she drilled pocket holes and sanded each section. She used nails where screws were not appropriate. To give the project a distressed look, once it was all put together, she first painted the whole project with black paint.

Katie then painted over the black with a cheery sunflower color and sanded down some of the edges, giving the shelf an added dimension.
