Amy from Sisters of the Wild West fell in love with a cast iron PB sign the moment she saw it in the catalog. She was not deterred by the fact that no one seemed to know what it actually said or that some of the letters were covered by strategically placed wine bottles. (So if anyone can translate this, please help a girl out!) Amy made her version using a piece of wood, her handy dandy overhead projector, and some craft paint. Obviously, Amy is pretty skilled with that projector!
Amy was inspired by the retired Eschenlohr Probst sign from Pottery Barn.
Check out the tutorial at Sisters of the Wild West.

It appears that this sign is a person’s name for the grocery store. The best translation I could come up with is
Eschen means “ash tree”
Lohn means”earrings, wages”
Probst means “test, rehearse”
When it comes to people’s names, who knows how they come about…in any language
hey beckie!
wow! its a very nice decoration to have with, it will give a thought to your visitors that you went to a place like germany, ahehehe!! love it, anyway, have you visited this site? Home Decor Stores!
Eschenlohr Probst is a proper name/title.
Eschenlohr is the location and Probst is German for provost in English (a religious head of a cloister as well as village church). (I live in Austria, where the Probst is a common title.
(probst written small is the declination for “to rehearse” but not related wordwise)
Thanks, Krystl! I am sure Amy will be grateful for your translation. I know it would be nice to have some sort of explanation if guests ask what it says!
