Stenciled Burlap Lampshade

Traci from Beneath My Heart was flipping through her Pottery Barn Kids catalog when a burlap lampshade caught her eye. And… surprise! It wasn’t because it was exactly what she’d been looking for and knew she could make it for less. On the contrary, Traci had already created almost identical lampshades for her boys’ room three years prior! Pretty striking resemblance, eh? Traci can proudly say, “Pottery Barn copied me!” {Giggled}

Birds and Branches Wall Canvas

Christy from Planted and Blooming Girl fell in love with a painting for her daughter’s room that was the perfect mix of girly and outdoorsy. But, alas, it was way too expensive, especially for a girl who frequently likes to change out her décor. Christy challenged herself to grab a canvas and paints and create her own artwork. If you are thinking Christy obviously has artistic talent, she says it’s not the case. She’s just a “nurse on a budget” who was inspired to try her hand at something new!

Easter Chair Backers

Pottery Barn Kids always has the cutest seasonal chair backers, and lucky for us crafty folks, they are not too challenging to replicate. Amanda from Living in Grace immediately recognized this fact and was inspired to create an adorable lamb and bunny chair backer for Easter. They were a labor of love, requiring hours of cutting and stitching, but boy are they cute! Plus the kiddos love them!

Jaime from That’s My Letter didn’t disappoint when a friend requested a set of display shelves similar to those sold by Pottery Barn Kids. Jaime teamed up with Ana White to build shelves that can easily be customized to fit any wall space. Why spend $49 or even $79 (ouch!) for one simple shelf when you could build your own for only $11?!?

When Mable from Lilato Laka came across a retro kitchen at Pottery Barn Kids, it was love at first sight. Of course, the price wasn’t all that lovable, so Mable pulled out her tools! For a grand total of $60, Mable transformed a used entertainment center into her daughter’s dream kitchen that is complete with tile, a window, a dishwasher, and tons of other kitchen gadgets. Mable is new to woodworking so you can only imagine her pride in building a piece her daughter loves and plays on for hours!

Burlap Rosette Lampshade

pb-kids-inspired-rosette-lampshade.jpg

Crystal from Homemaker in Heels made a plain lampshade resemble a beautiful bouquet by covering it in burlap rosettes. The rosettes are crazy simple to make, requiring just a little rolling, twisting, and gluing, but make a huge visual statement.  This is a great way to salvage an old shade that is showing some wear and tear or discoloration. All covered in rosettes no one would ever be the wiser!

When her brother requested a toy box for his kiddos, Ayisha at The Pursuit of Handyness headed straight to Ana White for plans. Ayisha modified the dimensions to fit her brother’s designated space, drew out her cut list, and headed to a local lumber yard to score all her wood for only $29. Ayisha knew the toy box was a big hit when her little niece and nephew immediately climbed inside {Giggle}!

Valentine’s Envelope Chair Backer

I made my kids chair backers for Halloween last year and they absolutely loved the thrill of finding treats inside each morning. Carrie from Simply Home shares how she created these adorable felt chair backers for Valentine’s Day with a few basic supplies. While the detail work may be a bit time consuming, you can save some serious dough by making these yourself. Carrie spent only $20 for four chair backers as opposed to paying $27 a piece with monogram!
