Have you ever been reluctant to paint over perfectly good wood on a cabinet, but you are really unhappy with the cabinet the way it is? If this describes you, then seeing what Claire from pillarboxblue did with her old TV cabinet will set your mind at ease. She shares her easy steps for transforming that old wool piece into something unique and beautiful.
Using a handy chalk paint and some brushes, we are restoring the beauty of those amazing wood grains on your furniture.
Claire chose chalk paint for this project for several reasons, not the least of which is it requires no prep work other than a good cleaning of the wood. Once the wood was cleaned and the hardware was covered with masking tape, Claire painted the chest using a small roller. Two coats of paint were needed to completely cover the old wood and create a deep finish. Claire then decoupaged colorful paper napkins to the panels in the doors of the cabinet. The easiest way to do this is to apply the paper to the still-wet paint and then smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles in the paper.
Finally, a dark wax was applied to create a durable finish.
