How Does Blue Paint Feel in a Living Room? types of ben moore blue paints

In a room, blue paint can make a space feel centered and alive.

It has a stabilizing effect that gives off a sophisticated yet inviting feeling.

Depending on the undertone, blue paint can either make a space feel warm and cozy or cool and chilly.

Pastel blues often have the latter effect, while creamy blues have the former.

Best Blue Paint Colors to Breathe New Life Into a Living Room

Here are some of the best blue paint colors to use in a living room.

1. Benjamin Moore Quiet Moments

Benjamin Moore Quiet Moments is a light egg-shell blue color with green undertones.

Since it’s so delicate, it lifts up simple neutral schemes without making an obvious statement. For this reason, it works especially well in coastal or country-themed living rooms.

With its relation to green, it blends well with other colors from the garden, like brown, pink, and lavender.

If you’re not too into those colors, fret not; Quiet Moments looks amazing with crisp whites and beiges.

Quiet Moments has the ability to brighten up a dark room, so it can be used in east- and west-facing rooms without an issue.

2. Sherwin Williams Argos

If it wasn’t for its name, SW Argos could be mistaken for gray. However, it’s actually a light silvery blue, with an emphasis on silver.

When used in living rooms that receive minimal sunlight, Argos takes on a deep silvery tone.

But when used in south- and north-facing rooms with plenty of sunlight, the color turns into a gentle, almost baby blue.

Argos has a mostly neutral color. It doesn’t steal the show from your furniture pieces, but it doesn’t fade away in the background, either.

When used as an accent or furniture paint, pair it with gold, burnished brass, and copper to make it stand out even more.

5. Dunn-Edwards Wild Blue Yonder

Wild Blue Yonder is Dunn-Edwards’s 2021 Color of the Year, and honestly, the company made a good choice.

Wild Blue Yonder is a stunning shade of soft azure. It’s soothing and airy, but with enough body to make a statement.

It complements nearly any design style, so you don’t have to replace your furniture when working with this color.

But if you really want to take it to the next level, pair it with creamy whites, soft grays, and natural browns.

For flooring, you can’t go wrong with maple, oak, or hardwood.

Sherwin Williams Misty is a beautiful combination of baby blue and soft light gray – see our review here!

It’s calming and cool, a wonderful color to come home to after a busy day.

With an LRV of 64, Misty is on the lighter end of the color scale.

For this reason, it can be used as a base in small living rooms as it makes a space look larger than it actually is.

If you live in warmer or tropical states, Misty is a color you definitely should consider.

It helps create a welcoming cool and laid-back aura, especially when used in west- or south-facing rooms.

7. Sherwin Williams North Star

Whenever I’m looking for a versatile powder-blue shade, I always find myself going for Sherwin Williams North Star.

At this point, it’s my go-to light blue thanks to its ability to pair well with hundreds of color schemes.

North Star is the very definition of peace, calm, and tranquility.

It looks its best with hardwood floors and stark white frames, but it won’t say no to off-whites, darker grays, beiges, and midnight or cobalt blues. You can even pair it with blush pink if you’re feeling romantic!

If you’re looking for a true coastal vibe, you won’t be disappointed with Sherwin Williams Tradewind.

It’s a clean and crisp color with barely noticeable gray and green undertones.

With an LRV of 61, this color can be used in both small and large living rooms.

It works well with crisp or creamy off-whites, beiges, lighter grays, midnight blues, and even black.

Try to avoid flashy and bright colors as they can distract viewers from the beauty of Tradewind – see our color guide on this one now!

9. Valspar Celestial Blue

Valspar Celestial Blue is a blue that sings. It’s a clear, bright blue that pops out against anything you place around it.

It doesn’t shy away from the spotlight; it wants you to notice it in all its glory.

This shade of blue works beautifully with equally striking colors, like reds, yellows, and darker blues.

If you’re not too into bold, bright colors, you can use creamy or beige colors for a more coastal vibe.

10. Benjamin Moore Smoke

Benjamin Moore Smoke is a moody blue-gray paint with green undertones.

It’s a sophisticated blue that infuses a living space with comfort and tranquility.

It’s a dreamy color that’ll add sophistication and character to your space.

Depending on the lighting conditions, Smoke can either appear light blue or green.

It looks softer and creamier in west- and south-facing rooms, and chillier in north-facing rooms.

11. Benjamin Moore Early Frost Blue

At first glance, Benjamin Moore Early Frost Blue looks pale gray.

But if you really look at it, you’ll notice that it’s actually a very light blue with deep gray and purple undertones.

Early Frost Blue is a color you’ll love in a room filled with natural light.

This icy blue-gray paint color adds a chilly vibe to a room, so it’s highly recommended in west- or south-facing rooms.

To neutralize the chilly effect, pair it with shades of beige, taupe, warm brown, and creamy white.

Though it works with any living room theme, it works best with Caribbean, coastal, modern farmhouse, and contemporary themes.

12. Benjamin Moore Water’s Edge

Benjamin Moore’s Water’s Edge reminds me of cloudy skies just before heavy rain.

It’s a stunning blue-gray with watery undertones, giving the illusion of cozy winter nights.

Water’s Edge works well in traditional, modern, and contemporary spaces. It adds elegance and subtle luxury to any room.

It pairs amazingly well with wooden tones, as well as shades of gold, brass, copper, and silver.

White trimmings are a must, as white beautifully contrasts the dark gray-blue of this color.

13. Sherwin Williams Dynamic Blue

Sherwin Williams Dynamic Blue is a color that doesn’t joke around.

It’s bold, bright, and cheerful, making it the perfect backdrop for other bold colors such as red, black, purple, and yellow.

It’s reminiscent of pristine blue pools and long summer days, and while it’s not always everyone’s first choice of blue, it adds a unique pop of color to an otherwise plain living room.

Dynamic Blue is best used in rooms that receive a lot of natural light so as to not weigh a room down.

For smaller rooms, this color is better used as an accent than a base.

14. Farrow & Ball Hague Blue

I normally don’t recommend colors under 50 LRV for small rooms, but the Farrow & Ball Hague Blue is different.

When used as a base in small rooms, Hague Blue turns the space into a rich, jewel-box lie room, with bold colors and eye-catching hues.

Pair it with equally deep colors for the best results.

As the name suggests, Sherwin Williams Luxe Blue is a luxurious deep blue-gray color.

It’s best paired with bright white colors, as well as snappier hues such as mustard yellow or magenta.

You can also add some pale blues to the mix to keep the palette fresh.

16. Benjamin Moore Hale Navy

Benjamin Moore Hale Navy aims to impress.

It’s not one of those blues that fade unnoticed in the background; rather, it makes a bold statement to whoever enters the room.

Though dark, Hale Navy is extremely versatile.

With the right color combo, it can turn a space into a modern escape or a Scandinavian heaven.

It looks amazing when paired with stark whites and lighter colors, but it really shines when mixed with darker, saturated colors, like reds, deep greens, and browns.

These colors make the room feel cozy, comfortable, and moody, with just a touch of masculinity.

17. Sherwin Williams Dark Night

Sherwin Williams Dark Night is so dark that it borders on black – learn more in our full review!

It has deep green undertones that appear prominent when paired with dark green furniture.

With an LRV of 4, this color can be a bit tricky to use.

In large rooms, it can make the space look royal, luxe, and high-end. In small rooms, it can make it congested and dingy.

As such, only use this color in mid- to larger-sized living rooms.

It can be used in small rooms, but only as an accent or furniture color.

Dark Night looks amazing with shades of gray, brown, and cream.

To contrast the dark color, use crisp white trims and accents.

18. Sherwin Williams Cyberspace

I normally don’t recommend colors under 50 LRV for small rooms, but Sherwin Williams Cyberspace is different.

When used as a base in small rooms, Cyberspace turns the space into a rich, jewel-box lie room, with bold colors and eye-catching hues—not unlike the glimmering colors you’d find in space!

Pair it with equally deep colors for the best results, as well as shades of beige and brown.

Final Thoughts

I hope my list of blue paint colors for the living room helped you choose your next shade of blue that matches your theme and furniture.

As a final note, I recommend choosing lighter colors for smaller rooms and darker colors for larger rooms so as to not compromise the size of the space.
