Like Jessica from A Smith of All Trades, you may prefer to skip right over the Halloween decorations and stick to fall. When Jessica wanted some inexpensive décor for the season, she grabbed a few foam pumpkins from the dollar store. With some old dictionary pages and Mod Podge, she gave them the more subdued autumn look she was after.
Pottery Barn’s ceramic skull vases have gotten a lot of love this Halloween! Not only are they sold out online, but a plethora of DIYers have replicated the look with various techniques and materials. Nikki from 13 Black Cats Designs molded a skull face from clay and then attached it onto a craft store vase. She finished it up with some spray paint and acrylic paint for a cool aged stone look.
Kelly from The Lily Pad Cottage has been obsessed with the rope mirrors in the Pottery Barn catalog this summer. Also loving the idea of hanging framed photo displays from old boat ropes and dock cleats, Kelly combined the two looks to make her own nautical rope mirrors for her master bedroom. It cost Kelly about $30 to make two mirrors, a great savings from Pottery Barn’s pricey counterparts!
Liz of Infuse with Liz was inspired to create a pretty Indian corn candle centerpiece like one she spied in Pottery Barn’s catalog. Attaching the corn to the glass bowl proved a little troublesome, but in the end Liz pulled it all together… literally… with some twine {wink}. You can leave your corn au natural like Liz did or glam it up with gold paint like PB’s version.
Gina from The Shabby Creek Cottage shares at The Graphics Fairy – DIY how she created a decorative clock face using a round tabletop she found on the side of the road. For this project, Gina used a carbon paper method to transfer the number outlines and then simply painted them in. Of course, I love that this is a rescue! Isn’t it amazing how just some paint can turn an item destined for the landfill into a decorative piece for your home?
Angela from Unexpected Elegance was shopping with her brother in Pottery Barn when they came across a rustic wooden stool and decided they needed to make one of their own. Don’t you love the idea of seeing something you want in a store and then going home to build it for a mere fraction of the price? Angela’s stool was less than $20, and who knows, you may already have scrap wood and stain on hand to make one for free!
For Tammy at A Walk in the Countryside this burlap memo board consumed her thoughts day and night until its completion. You know… it was one of those projects where things just don’t go as planned. However, in the end, Tammy came out the victor in her battle against the burlap. With the adjustable rod and cute burlap pouch, I think Tammy totally nailed the look of her inspiration!
Here’s a great idea from Ally at Wish Simple for adding character to a decorative prop ladder with a paint-dipped look. Ally painted the bottom of her ladder grey and then, at her son’s suggestion, added a red stripe for a nautical vibe. I love how just this little bit of paint takes the ladder to a whole new level!
